Our Mission

The mission of the Harmony Homeschool Choir program is to provide homeschooled students in the surrounding areas with a quality choral experience, to learn to work as a choral group, and to individually pursue excellence in choral performance.

Objectives

While our goal is to provide students with a fun choral experience, rehearsals will also focus on the following learning objectives:

  • A selection of choral literature aimed at exposing students to a variety of musical genres including classical, show tunes, folk songs, spirituals, sacred, multicultural, patriotic etc.

  • Basic music reading skills (rhythm, pitch, sight-reading, musical notation, dynamics, etc.)

  • Proper vocal and singing techniques

  • Performance in an ensemble setting composed of multiple vocal parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass)

  • Participation in a variety of performance opportunities and events

Attendance Policy (3 Total Absences)

Attendance to rehearsals and performances is imperative for a successful learning experience and is required of all students. Students will only be allowed THREE ABSENCES for the semester. Please save these absences for illness and/or necessities. If a child exceeds three absences they will be dismissed from the group without refund. If there are special circumstances, please notify Sarah Latch to discuss a contingency plan. Please understand this policy is put in place to make a positive experience for the group as a whole

Behavior & Expectations

In order to maximize learning, rehearsal behavior needs to be orderly and respectful. Misbehavior interferes with the experience for all students involved and will not be tolerated. Every student will be asked to comply to the following guidelines:

  • Rehearsals begin promptly. Please be seated and ready to begin on time. Excessive tardiness will be
    addressed.

  • Students need to bring their folders to each rehearsal. It's $30 to replace a lost folder.

  • Students are encouraged to support each other and be uplifting

  • Treble Choir will occasionally have homework throughout the semester. Concert Choir will commit to practice up to 60 minutes each week. Practice videos & reminders will be uploaded to the rehearsal section of our website.

  • To minimize distractions, students need to use the restroom before or after rehearsals.

  • Students are not allowed to have gum, candy or food during rehearsals or concerts. Bottled water is
    acceptable.

Personal Commitment

Students will be asked to sign a personal commitment upon arrival at their first rehearsal. It will state the following:

  • I understand that I need to arrive promptly to choir and behave in a manner pleasing to the Lord.

  • I will use uplifting words and encourage my fellow choir members.

  • I will make every effort to be prepared for and participate actively in rehearsal each week.

  • I will work for excellence in my personal practice time and be honest in my completion of each task.

  • I will make a personal commitment to our host site to protect their property and to remember that I am a guest.

Parents Observing Rehearsals

Parents are always welcomed to stay and watch rehearsals if they choose to. However, to minimize distractions, turn down cell phones and use discretion if you have small children with you. Also, no food or drinks are allowed at either location. Bottled water only.

Music Theory Tuition

$110 for Each Student

Harmony Choir offers Music Theory courses in a 4 part series, taught by Mr. Steve Rupp, B.M., a 1998 graduate of the Belmont University School of Music’s Commercial Music program. The courses are available to choir singers (ages 11-18), adults, and anyone else interested in learning the basics of music theory or moving in to intermediate learning in theory. These courses cover a wide introduction that takes the student through the building blocks of tonal harmony including the keyboard, notation on the staff, major and minor scales and key signatures; intervals, ear training, rhythm in music, and eventually moving into more advanced functional theory like chords, inversions, modes, musical composition, complex scales & rhythm, tonal harmony and ear training.

Our music theory courses are organized in to a 4-semester cycle spanning two calendar years, consisting of 4 levels of theory from beginner to intermediate/advanced. We’ve specially designed the course flow to allow your child to progress through the sections naturally over the course of two years. Tuition will be $110/student per semester.

The course offerings and schedule for this semester are still in the process of being finalized. Please contact Steve Rupp at 931-321-1191 or click the button below to register or inquire about either our music theory classes or the “School of Worship” course.
